Electrical Trainer for PLC`s and Motor Controls - Overview
Hello, In this video, I`m going to give you an overview of the Electrical Trainer that I’ve used to teach years of motor controls and PLC`s. I hope this video will inspire another teacher or someone who wants to learn by making their own equipment. I don’t think I have the best ideas on building trainers, but I wanted to put something out there so people could come up with their own ideas.

Good stuff! Where did you get the white, blue, black and red terminal blocks? What models are they?
You can buy any color on automation direct.
thanks for all the good info
Oh, thanks God. I allready thought that all the welders in the world are mute
Haha I understand what you mean. Hope my words helped!
thanks for all the good advise you are a great instructor sir.
what would be different for 120?
6 and 8 will go to the center two terminals. 1 and 3 will go to the top two terminals. 2 and 4 will go to the bottom two terminals. The 120v is much very simple. Hopefully that helps you!
this is great except this isnt a normal drum switch, how do you wire this with a drum switch with the L shaped terminal positions?
I have a video on that! Look through my content
Very informative. Thank you Sir
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the clear explanation on your video of wiring a drum switch with 110 Volts, However This did not work on my cheap Amazon 15.99 ( Uxell Brand ) drum switch. Mine only works in one direction and does nothing in the other switch position. Can you help me. Mine has 6 connections. The motor wiring is exactly what you show except #5 instead Of #6.
I’ve never used that drum but I would look at the wiring diagram. It’s probably different. I’ve done videos on a few different styles. Maybe one of those matches.
Question : I have 8 mm diameter rod and I tried to dies it using M8/1.25 dies tool, but it so difficult to screw it to the rod. So I tried the M9 dies and it went perfectly. So is there any tips or rule about rod diameter vs dies size ? Thanks
Great job!. Anyone know the name of the book he used?
Thank you for all of your videos, man! They've been super helpful, and I really appreciate the education.
Thank you! I wish I had more time to do more.
Thanks for the great video this was a wonderful explanation and helped me so much!
Thank you! I’m glad it helped!
This was very clear. Thank you
Did I missing the part on Rotation?
Excellent breakdown in video Really helped me improve my game thank you
Excellent breakdown in video Really helped me improve my game thank you
Excellent breakdown and video
Thanks alot❤
hi do you have clips on reciprocating compressor alignment?
I don't, sorry
Thank You for this Video. In our factory we only had two 120 Volt Motors that ran off of Drum Controller. Most of the time if a Motor had to be run off of a Drum Controller it was a 440 Volt Three Phase Motor. You made this very clear ! Thank You for your efforts and attention to detail !
What kind of factory do you work in?
what is an "and" circuit?
It’s a type of circuit logic. I have another video explaining “and, or, nor, nand” logic if you are interested.
You have a separate supply of 24v?
Yes, typically the incoming power is much higher than the control circuit.
Great video. Thank you
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Bro had one job and didn’t follow the diagram. I’m fucking dying laughing lol
Good ❤
Thank you! You are the man
Cable tray covers are messing with me, I can’t follow where some of your wires are leading too
Are the wires numbered?
How can I wire a limit switch on the reverse side but still have the forward still work, once the reverse is limited out? Application is for pulling a boat out of the water, but I want it to stop when it hits the limit but be able to let it go back down. 120v motor, Dayton drum switch and industrial limit switch. Thanks
That's a cool project and problem. I'm not saying it's impossible but most of my experience with these switches is for lathes. I think to add more control capabilities you would need to move/add to a basic motor control or PLC. I wish I could help but there are limitations with the amount of contacts of the switch and 120v motors. I hope you find a way to do it.
I have that book and the pocket version
Thanks I needed that. Great teacher!
Will there be a part II ?
Yes! I got a new job and I’ve been pretty busy. It’s going to be awhile
Your complicating it lol
Great video bro 👌
Hi, can i get the title of the book you referred?
Great job on this! That’s a super sharp looking table.
Great video! I wonder if there is a standard in the choice of live wires to feed the step down transformer (for the coil)? Here, in Quebec-Canada, all the electricians I talked to are using L1 and L2. You used L1 and L3 in one video and L1 and L2 in another.
You are correct in thinking L1 and L2 should be used. When I made this video I was trying to show students they all carried the same power.
Thank you
Thank you this is the way this should be thought. Simple and to the point. Just what I was looking for for my students. Thanks
Hopefully, it does the trick!
So there are no wires on the opposite side? Its a great explanation i can see that but im in no way an electrician. The side of my drum switch that has label L1 and L2 has L1 with jumpers to the two ports above it so vertical from top to bottom i have 9, 5 and L1. To the left i have from top to bottom 11, 7 and L2. Direct opposite side is 10, 6 and T1 on left and T9, T8 and T2 on right. Help me get through this and I'll never do it again
I'm not sure what you are asking but I'm more than willing to help.
Is positioning the 2 switching wires, your case i believe you said 6 and 8, in diagonal from each other for all drum switches? I guess they all work pretty much the same
No there are all three different styles of drum switches. I have videos explaining all three with different voltages.
@@Mikesfilmss its all good. Just happens a friend of the owner is an electrician and came by and he hooked it up. I appreciate you taking time to explain the process. UA-cam has been really great for people willing to help others and people needing help
Finally figured out how to wire my Leeson 1/2 HP 1725 rpm motor to a Dayton drum switch. If you would like I can send a copy of the wiring diagram to your email. Nice to be able to back off a threading die under power!
if you could make a video with this switch and a single phase motor would be awesome
Waw, u are doing so much in dese lecture bhaiya, thank you this play list is amazingq
V useful. Thanks!
I have a Leeson 1/2 hp motor. It has P1, P2, T2, T3, T4, T5, T8 wires. In the 110vac configuration P1 goes to line, P2 , T3, T8 are Taped, T2, T4, T5 are line. T5 and T8 are the wires that are interchanged in order to reverse rotation. I have a Dayton Drum switch that has the L , and upside down L configuration. Top to bottom on the switch would be 1 and 2, then 3 and 4, and then 5 and 6. Forward configuration would be 1,2, and 3 / 4,5, and 6. In reverse 1,2 and 4 / 3,5 and 6. So how do you wire this 7-wire single phase motor? Just trying to hook up my lathe so I have forward and reverse without burning up a motor. Great videos!
I have a video with the L-style switch. Check that one out. It might tell you what you need.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot brother
Can you show the wiring for the same motor 120v? Thanks
Here’s an explanation of where the wires go. I started a new job so I’m taking a break from UA-cam but hopefully that helps you. 6 and 8 will go to the center two terminals. 1 and 3 will go to the top two terminals. 2 and 4 will go to the bottom two terminals. The 120v is much very simple.
Great video! Thank you.
I will never play along with the monopoly of Allen Bradley and Siemens, whoever wants to make these companies richer welcome, I have had projects for more than twenty years working and making upgrades with PLCs from different brands, they do the same!!! More economical!! And even in some cases, better functions such as Rest API, OPC UA, it seems like a robbery to me that just by checking a box on the portal they charge you 1000 dollars just to enable OPC UA, that's it!!
I understand what you’re saying. The college I used to work for only used Allen Bradley. I think people are a lot more open-minded these days. I’ve been looking at automation direct PLCs lately.
